The Coffin family is among the many New England families from which we descend. In the very early years this family was devoutly Quaker. They first settled in Massachusetts and Nantucket Island, moving in the 1700s to join the Quaker community in Guilford, North Carolina. Several families moved north and bit west to settle in Ohio. We descend from that line.

The Coffin descent:

  • Peter Coffin 1580 – 1627 / Joan Thember 1584 – 1661
  • Tristram Coffin 1609 – 1681 / Dionis Stevens 1613 – 1676

The Coffin Lineage — 2 Comments

  1. I’m trying to figure out if Margaret Coffin, born 1790 in North Carolina, and married Daniel Horney, July 15, 1808 in Greene County, Ohio is from this Coffin family. Her marriage record clearly states Coffin, however, most have her as Margaret Calloway, she was only 18 years old, so I doubt she was married before her marriage to Daniel Horney. Daniel and Margaret are my 4th great grandparents.
