Haramont Nathanial Anderson had a long and interesting life, one that spanned nearly 100 years.Haramont Nathaniel Anderson was born in Scranton Iowa, 1 June 1876 — just a bit more than a month before the 100th Anniversary of our declaration of Independence. Horses and buggy were the principal transportation for local trips, trains for long distance travel and ships for inter continental travel. By the time he died in November 1971 the country was stitched together by high speed super highways, reaching anywhere could be done by air, including travel between continents. Two years before his death, men successfully walked on the surface of the moon.

Harry, as he was called, grew up in small towns in Iowa. His first 20 years were spent in Scranton, with a break to attend medical school at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Upon completing his degree and setting up a practice in Scranton, he met and married Margaret Holmes in October of 1905. About a year later their first child, Mary Holmes Anderson was born. Soon after that the young family moved to Woodbine, Iowa where Dr. Anderson set up his practice that would last for 50+ years. Their two sons, John Harmon and Haramont Nathaniel, Jr., were born there.
