Children of William Anderson and Lydia Horney
William’s first wife, Amarilla Dinsmore Anderson, died in 1847, a few months after the birth of Drury. A year later William married Lydia Ann Horney in Xenia, Greene County, Ohio. William and Lydia had eleven children: Emma Zeta; Rhoda Margaret; Daniel Horney; Ada Rena; Alice Katie; Fred A., Viola and Maude Leota. Maude Leota and her children are partially responsible for the creation of the initial Anderson Story upon which so much of my work has been based.
Charles Snodgrass in his essay of 1930 about the move from Ohio to Iowa describes Lydia Horney Anderson this way: “Grandmother, as you know, was guite [quite] large, out weighting grandfather at that time, she managed to get out on one of the wheels and grandfather had to take her on his back.” This event came about because the wagon in which she was riding became stuck in a stream they were trying to cross and the wagon had to be unloaded. Charles is the son of Lydia’s step-daughter, Sarah.
