A change of direction
I created this website as a pure WordPress site based upon a site I had designed from scratch. A version of the design can be found at RootsWeb: Anderson-Holmes-Horney-Haacke Ancestors. I also made a WorldConnect family tree in December of 2010 that contains similar information. I had another website that Ancestry.com has removed from the web. This site was through Genealogy.com.
Over the years that I have been working on our family genealogy I have used a variety of programs. The earliest was the simple Brother’s Keeper. Brother’s Keeper was used to create a data base of the information my Grandfather Anderson had put into the little monograph The Anderson Story in 1968. When I first began this kind of work my computer was CPM based Heathkit H/Z-89 all-in-one computer. Eventually I worked my way to the PC and DOS based computers. The genealogy programs became more sophisticated and added many features.
Today I use Family Tree Maker (Ancestry.com). Legacy, and the Master Genealogist. The first two programs are still available and continue to be upgraded. The Master Genealogist was discontinued last year. I found it to be a powerful program with some really wonderful features. Among the latter was a separate program, Second Site, that generated a complete HTML site from the information held in Master Genealogist. I used Master Genealogist and Second site to create the RootsWeb site referenced above. This registry genealogical tree is very large, I now have some 13,000+ names in this database.
I have decided to add this registry to this site so that folks can locate the many names and families that are a part of our greater family tree.
