Taking these ramblings in a new direction. This blog was begun in 2014 with some reminiscences about homes/places my family lived when I was growing up. Using a new format I expect to develop thoughts and essays on a variety of topics. My life began in Iowa in 1936, then to Oregon in 1940 and finally to Colorado in 1968 where it continues today after retiring from 37 years of teaching at the University of Colorado: Denver.

My parents were born and raised in Woodbine, Iowa. Mom (Frances Turner) is the oldest daughter of Arthur and Jopie Tuner, Dad (H.N. Anderson, Jr.) is the youngest son of Dr. H. N.. and Margaret Anderson. Art Turner was blacksmith and lived to the North of the small park on the western edge of Woodbine. H.N. Anderson was a doctor and lived on the south side of the same park.
Mom and Dad spent their early years pretty much in Woodbine, both finished High School there. Dad did some additional training beyond high school and spent a year teaching which he did not like. Mom finished high school in 1935, she and Dad were married that fall in Mayville, Missouri. With the help of their parents they bought a small house immediately behind the senior Anderson’s home. Their three children were born in Woodbine: Holmes in 1936, Mary in 1937 and Bill in 1938.
After his stint teaching Dad went to work for the local grocer in Woodbine. In 1940 with Dad moved to Oregon driving in a caravan of cars moved to Oregon for resale. Mom followed in September< on the City of Roses train from Omaha. More of our life story will be shared on these page
